Group of students from PSA in front of Solano Community College

Fairfield, CA - Senior Cadets from the Public Safety Academy (PSA) took an important step toward their future education with "Steps to Solano," a field trip to Solano Community College (SCC) on Monday, April 29th. The Seniors participated in a new student orientation, toured the campus, and met with an SCC counselor to create personalized education plans for their fall classes. This event was designed to prepare the Seniors for their transition from high school to college and help them understand how to select the right general education (G.E.) classes, create a transfer plan, and become familiar with the SCC campus.

Students appreciated the chance to visit Solano Community College and receive guidance on their academic journeys. A PSA teacher commented, "The Seniors were grateful to have the chance to visit Solano, meet with a counselor to plan out their classes, and explore the campus. For many, it was their first time visiting a college, and they were fascinated by the entire experience. Some of them didn't want to leave!"

Danica, College and Career Technician, expressed her satisfaction with the success of the program, saying, "This day was an outstanding experience for our Seniors. I'm grateful to the Solano Counseling and Outreach Department for helping make this field trip possible. After visiting Solano, our Seniors were able to take advantage of Priority Registration, which is crucial since general education classes fill up quickly. This partnership with Solano is something we plan to continue, ensuring that 'Steps to Solano' becomes a regular part of the Senior year.”

The PSA field trip to Solano Community College underscores the importance of preparing high school students for the transition to college and ensuring they have access to the resources and information they need to succeed in their academic endeavors. By fostering partnerships with institutions like SCC, PSA aims to help students build a strong foundation for their future education.
