Fairfield, CA - The Armijo International Club, founded in 2003 by four English Language Development (ELD) students in Mrs. Walling-Sisi's ELD classes, celebrated its commitment to diversity and cultural appreciation while honoring its founding members during International Week festivities.
Established by Kelvin Fox and Victor Lopez, with Mayte Fierro Ortiz and Bertha Ortiz serving as secretary and treasurer respectively, the club aimed to create a welcoming environment that celebrated the diverse cultures, languages, and talents of Armijo High School students. Over the years, the club has flourished, becoming the largest organization on Armijo's campus with over 40 regular members.
International Week, a tradition at Armijo since 2005, showcased the vibrant cultures of the school community through daily lunchtime performances and games. This year's festivities, which coincided with Cinco de Mayo, featured a diverse array of performances and activities, including Filipino Tinikling, Indian Bhangra dancers, Armijo Mallet Ensemble, Samoan Ta'olunga, and Mexican Ballet Folklorico, among others.
In a special ceremony during International Week, club Secretary Raph Ramos presented certificates of appreciation to the founding members who returned after 20 years to witness the growth and impact of the club they helped establish.
