Fairfield, CA -  On Friday, May 24, Nelda Mundy Elementary School hosted a highly successful Safety Day, bringing together local first responder agencies to educate students about their crucial roles in the community. The event featured engaging demonstrations and valuable lessons on police and fire safety.

The event saw participation from various agencies, including the Fairfield Police Department and SWAT team, Cal Fire, Sonoma Valley Fire, Oakland Police Department, Solano County Sheriff, Solano County Animal Control, and the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which thrilled the students with a helicopter landing and takeoff.

Students had the opportunity to interact with first responders, learn about their duties, and witness demonstrations of their skills and equipment. The hands-on experiences were designed to educate and inspire students about safety and the important work of these community heroes.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Principal Julie Smith of Nelda Mundy Elementary School shared her excitement: "All of our students were excited to learn about our local first responders, their roles in the community, and safety. Watching the CHP helicopter land and take off is an event they will always remember! We are so fortunate to have so many community connections to bring this wonderful event to our school.
