Groundbreaking Ceremony at Anna Kyle

FAIRFIELD, CA – A groundbreaking ceremony for the Anna Kyle Elementary School Main Office and Kindergarten Complex took place on Friday, Dec. 13, marking the official commencement of construction for the new facilities.

"I am very excited and humbled to be here today to talk about something very special happening right here at our school — a new construction project that will bring many wonderful changes to our campus,” Anna Kyle Elementary Principal Veronica Carrasco told guests during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The groundbreaking was attended by FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs, as well as board members, staff, students, and parents.

The new development will include five kindergarten classrooms, a collaborative learning space, restrooms, a main office and lobby, as well as individual offices such as a nurse’s office and a conference room.

The project is part of a $249.6 million initiative approved by voters in 2022. Measure S allocates funding toward modernization and renovation projects across schools within the district, including $24 million for the improvements at Anna Kyle Elementary.

“This project is a necessary step in making our school an even better place to be,” Principal Carrasco told attendees. “Every time we see the construction progress, we will be reminded that it’s for the best interest of our community."

Site improvements will include new paving, upgraded playground, enhanced landscaping, and a renovated athletic field with a new irrigation system. Additionally, a marquee and expanded parking lot will be added. Last summer, the parking lot was upgraded to support future expansion, including the creation of a new drop-off lane.

The redesigned main office and drop-off area will provide improved campus entry, better traffic flow, increased drop-off space, and enhanced safety for students and families. The centrally located main office will be updated with a more welcoming atmosphere that highlights the school’s unique identity.

Construction and design firm S+B James Construction is overseeing the project, which they describe as “designed to create a conducive learning environment while ensuring efficient use of space and resources,” resulting in “a well-integrated, functional, and aesthetically pleasing educational complex.”

A campus promenade will connect the student drop-off area with the rest of the campus, serving as both a functional and aesthetic focal point for the school. Bordered by rows of trees, the promenade will provide a shaded and inviting pathway for students.

The kindergarten classrooms will feature a flexible, multi-use collaboration space designed to foster creativity and group learning activities. Natural light will flood both the classrooms and collaboration areas, with large windows designed to enhance student well-being and engagement.

“This new construction is all about making our school an even more welcoming, engaging, inclusive and comfortable place to learn and grow for all,” Principal Carrasco said. “These new physical spaces will be bright and welcoming, giving our staff, students and families even more room to explore, create, and learn.”

Anna Kyle Elementary is one of Fairfield-Suisun Unified’s 18 elementary school campuses, serving nearly 750 students in Transitional Kindergarten through fifth grade.
