Beautiful Imperfections Book

Fairfield, CA – Fairfield High School students are published authors with “Our Beautiful Imperfections: The Weight of YOUR Words,” out now on Amazon.

Class of 2025 students in FHS’ Transition class recently celebrated with a book launch party to mark their achievement. The book is described on Amazon as “a powerful collection of essays that offers a unique perspective on the challenges faced by special needs students.… Raw, honest, and incredibly inspiring.”

The Transitions class supports Fairfield High School special education students in planning and preparing for their future after high school, including career exploration and connecting students to supports in the community.

According to FHS staff, the “Our Beautiful Imperfections” project has been a long time in the making. FHS special education teacher Lynn Bocca has been working with students for several years to help them write and publish their own stories. “Don’t Dis My Ability,” published in 2023, is an earlier collection of essays created by FHS students with a similar theme.

FHS speech-language pathologist Judith Flores called “Our Beautiful Imperfections” an “awesome project,” adding, “Not only does it help students understand who they are, but their stories can be an inspiration to others.”

“Through their stories, the students share the struggles they have faced – from being misunderstood and underestimated, to dealing with physical and emotional barriers,” the book’s Amazon description reads. “This book is a celebration of the resilience and strength of these special needs students, and a reminder that with determination, hard work, and support, anything is possible.”

Bocca said her students are so proud of their written work, and of the finished book, which currently retails for $5 on Amazon.
