Families in the library for a Literacy Night

Fairfield, CA – Local families celebrated learning during Family Literacy Night on February 5th at the Fairfield Civic Center Library. The free, family-friendly, interactive event was hosted in partnership with the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) and Solano County Library.

Throughout the evening, families of transitional kindergarten through second-grade students played interactive games designed to reinforce essential literacy skills in young learners. In addition, families learned strategies to extend the learning experience at home. Each family received copies of the games and materials, ensuring they could continue the learning fun beyond the event.

“Our goal was to provide fun and effective ways for parents to support their children with learning foundational literacy skills,” said Lori Taylor, FSUSD Literacy Coordinator. “We wanted to create a space where families can have fun and learn together.”

The event was made possible through FSUSD’s ongoing collaboration with Solano County Library, which shares a commitment to supporting literacy and family engagement.

“Our library is dedicated to helping people develop strong literacy skills,” said David Lewis, Literacy Program manager. “By working with FSUSD, we can provide families with resources and activities that make reading enjoyable and accessible for all.”

FSUSD is proud of its partnership with Solano County Library, as both organizations share the same goal — helping families support literacy and their children’s education.
