Grange students interacting with Military Band

Fairfield, CA – Grange Middle School students were treated to a patriotic display of musical greatness on March 18th as the Band of the Golden West performed.

Grange students were rewarded with the concert by the Air Force military band as a result of having positive attendance during a districtwide attendance campaign.

"We are extremely fortunate to partner with our community partner Travis Air Force Base to bring back their band for a second year,” Principal Heather Oja said. “This special production aligned with our Attendance Campaign and we were excited to offer this event to support our students’ academic engagement.

According to its website, the USAF Band of the Golden West is stationed in the San Francisco Bay Area at Travis Air Force Base, and is the only active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies. The band includes about 60 active duty musicians, which perform more than 250 times a year throughout California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Nevada. The band features several different ensembles, including a concert band, marching band, jazz ensemble, brass and woodwind quintets, and popular music ensembles.

Grange Middle School students were treated to a performance by the group’s Galaxy popular music ensemble, a seven-piece group featuring guitar, bass, keyboard, percussion and horns, covering today’s hits, as well as classic rock, Latin and R&B music.

Following the performance, students were also able to ask questions to the band members.

“Students were engaged throughout the concert and learned about entering the military, jobs throughout the military, and other types of military branches," Principal Oja said.
