Fairfield, CA - Armijo High School's track and field team split up to attend different meets last weekend and came away with some amazing results. The sprint team attended the Eddie Hart Invitational at Pittsburgh High School, while the distance team attended the Dublin Distance Fiesta at Dublin High School.
At the Eddie Hart Invitational, the sprint team set a new school record in the 4x200-meter relay. The team consisted of Cierra Kinsey, Ani Kinsey, A'Jah Parks, and Sanai Wilson, who clocked an impressive 1:48.20, surpassing the previous record by 0.6 seconds. Meanwhile, Armijo's distance team showed tremendous growth at the Dublin Distance Fiesta. The small but mighty squad consisted of eight distance runners who all ran new personal bests, including sophomore, Favian Villa, who improved his time by 13 seconds, and senior, Yadira Chavez, who improved by 11 seconds. A highlight of the day was junior Lilian Luu's new 3rd-best mile time in school history which she completed in an impressive 5:23.
Coach Matthew Pence expressed his pride and enthusiasm for the Armijo High School track and field team's accomplishments stating, "I am incredibly proud of our team's outstanding achievements. Their hard work and dedication have truly paid off. It's an honor to coach such an amazing group of athletes!”
With over a month left in their season, the team anticipates more growth from all of their athletes. The team's success is a reflection of the school's dedication to the athletic programs, students, and community.
