Fairfield, CA — In a spirited show of community pride, the Armijo High School JROTC cadets took part in the annual Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 21, 2024. This nationwide initiative, celebrated as the largest environmental volunteer event, brought together people of all ages to clear litter from local waterways and parks. The Armijo JROTC cadets began their three-hour cleanup at Upper Union Creek near Travis Boulevard and finished at Linear Park, a scenic route spanning some of Fairfield’s treasured green spaces.

Families of cadets joined the event, working side by side with their young leaders to emphasize the values of community service and environmental stewardship. Parents, community members, and local media attended, capturing moments and supporting the cadets.

The cleanup was led by Mr. Rodney Hicks, JROTC Instructor and first-time event coordinator. “Under the guidance of Colonel (Ret) Ed Bruce, I was pleased to have a great group of Armijo High cadets volunteer their Saturday to help clean up the community,” said Hicks. “I look forward to more events in the Fairfield area.”

The Armijo JROTC’s involvement in this community tradition demonstrated their dedication not only to leadership but to making a meaningful difference in Fairfield. Their efforts contributed to a cleaner, greener city for all.
