Fairfield, CA - The Armijo High School Royal Regiment performed admirably at the Northern California Band Association (NCBA) Winter Championships at Del Oro High School on March 29 and 30.
"We are incredibly proud to celebrate the Armijo High School Royal Regiment and their exceptional achievements," Band Director Louise Jacob said. "Our students gave unforgettable performances and represented Armijo with excellence, heart and pride."
The Armijo Mallet Ensemble ended their undefeated season with a powerful performance that earned the highest score of the entire day - an impressive 85.90 - and an NCBA Scholastic Concert Percussion Champion title.
According to director Louise Jacob, the band's performance set the bar so high that it impacted the rest of the day's scoring.
Armijo's National AA Scholastic Guard finished sixth, and several Armijo students took home individual awards. KayleighKurtz and Gwen Lim each earned an NCBA Outstanding Performer award, with Kayleigh taking home an NCBA scholarship. In addition, Jordan Matthews came in fifth in Mace Novice A), and Izza Defeo came in seventh in Military Mace Novice AA.
“These accomplishments are a true reflection of the hard work, talent, and dedication of our students, along with the steadfast leadership and guidance from our instructors and staff,” said Louise Jacob, noting that many of her students had never played an instrument or touched a piece of color guard equipment when they first joined the group. “Watching these students grow – not only as performers, but as individuals – has been amazing. From the artistry of the guard to the precision of the percussion and the strength of our drum majors, the Armijo Royal Regiment continues to set a standard of excellence.”
The director thanked percussion staff Alejandro Saucedo, Lucia Holmboe, and Kevin Sayas, and guard staff Tyriise Salas and Mashaya Burke for their support of the performers.
