Fairfield, CA - David Weir Preparatory Academy has unveiled a new community garden, a fresh addition to the school's campus. This project, supported by Sustainable Solano and Republic Services through donations of compost, starter plants, and gardening equipment, brought together students, parents, and staff for a joyful planting event. The garden will serve as an outdoor classroom where students can learn about nature, science, and sustainability in a practical, engaging way.
The garden project was initiated by teachers Ms. Thomas and Ms. Emmons, who saw an opportunity to transform overgrown planter boxes into a vibrant space for the school community. On April 17th, 2024, participants planted strawberries, cucumbers, and a variety of flowers, creating a lively and welcoming garden. The hands-on experience is intended to help students understand the basics of gardening and sustainability while fostering a sense of community spirit.
The new garden is part of the school's efforts to promote environmental awareness and healthy living. It's a unique space where students can engage with nature and gain valuable skills through hands-on activities.
