Fairfield, CA - On May 10, 2024, the Early College High School Program held its largest Senior Project Showcase to date. This event is a highlight of the academic year, where seniors present their capstone projects in three categories: Community Service, Career Exploration, and Creative Arts. The showcase is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and dedication of the students.
The event featured a variety of impressive projects, each demonstrating the unique skills and interests of the students. One standout project in the Community Service category was Lizzette Hernandez’s initiative to build a community library in collaboration with the Afterschool Program at Dan O. Root Elementary School. Lizzette involved young students in designing, painting, and selecting books for the library.
In the Career Exploration category, Nicole Young made significant strides towards becoming an ASL interpreter. With guidance from Solano College faculty, Nicole recorded videos and worked towards her certification, showing her commitment to her future career.
Alicia Ramirez’s Creative Arts project connected her with her Indigenous Tarascan heritage. She learned to sew a traditional skirt by engaging with women in her community, blending cultural heritage with creative expression.
All 99 seniors presented unique and diverse projects, reflecting their individual passions and skills. Teacher Quinten Voyce, who oversees the senior projects, expressed his admiration for the students' efforts: "My favorite part about overseeing the senior projects is that students choose unique projects to pursue. There were 99 seniors this year, and you'll see 99 different projects!"
Isaac Mejia, one of the seniors, shared how the project influenced him: "The senior project helped me a lot in my ability to learn new things. Making a business from scratch was all new to me." Another senior, Lainey Stage, highlighted the opportunities provided by the Early College High School Program: "The Early College High School Program has really opened up a lot of opportunities for me."
The Senior Project Showcase not only celebrated the students' achievements but also demonstrated the program's commitment to fostering diverse talents and preparing students for their future endeavors.
