Fairfield, CA - The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) is thrilled to announce its recognition as a 2024 California Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Honoree. This esteemed award celebrates the district's commitment to sustainability, environmental education, and resource conservation.
The award is based on three pillars: reducing environmental impact and costs, improving health and wellness, and providing effective environmental and sustainability education. As an honoree, FSUSD has demonstrated excellence in all three areas, underscoring the district's leadership in promoting green practices and environmental stewardship.
FSUSD's innovative approach to sustainability encompasses energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and a focus on student health and wellness. The district's installation of photovoltaic shade structures at ten school sites, generating 90% of their energy needs, is just one example. These efforts are projected to save over $16.5 million over 20 years.
The district's commitment to sustainability is reflected in its construction projects, which incorporate energy-efficient practices like hydronic Variable Air Volume systems, extensive daylighting, and cool roof systems. FSUSD's transportation department has also introduced new, eco-friendly buses, reducing its carbon footprint.
"We are honored to receive this recognition," said Kris Corey, Superintendent of FSUSD. "This award highlights our district’s dedication to sustainability and our efforts to create a healthier environment for our students and staff. This honor recognizes our ongoing commitment to sustainability and encourages us to continue striving for a greener future."
