Fairfield, CA - The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) is excited to continue its Student Custodian Program for a second year, after seeing great success last summer. This year, the program has grown to include 59 student workers. These students participated in four hours of onboarding training, where they learned the basics of cleaning techniques and safe chemical use. Additionally, they received hands-on training from permanent custodians on how to deep clean classrooms, providing essential custodial support to the district's summer school programs.
The Student Custodian Program is part of FSUSD's broader commitment to providing meaningful work opportunities that equip students with life skills and practical experience. Each student participated in four hours of initial training, where they learned best practices for custodial work. Additionally, on-site permanent custodians provided hands-on instruction in deep cleaning classrooms, further preparing students for the responsibilities they took on in supporting the district's summer school programs.
This program not only serves as a valuable learning experience but also fosters a sense of responsibility and pride in maintaining a clean and safe school environment. By engaging students in this program, FSUSD emphasizes the importance of hard work, attention to detail, and teamwork—skills that are valuable in any career path.
Mark Wright, a returning participant in the program, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity: "This is my second year in the program, and it's been a really good experience. I've learned a lot, and I've recommended it to a lot of my friends."
FSUSD remains committed to offering programs that not only support the operational needs of the district but also provide students with opportunities to grow, learn, and prepare for their futures. The Student Custodian Program is just one example of how the district is dedicated to investing in its students' development.
